Thank you to everyone that has provided input over the last several months. It has helped shape the preferred concepts for both Seibenthaler Park and the former Bennett property.
The City of Sumner is working with HBB Landscape Architecture to develop Master Plans for Seibenthaler Park and the newly acquired Bennett Property. The plans will be developed with phases in mind to maximize funding opportunities in future years.

The City of Sumner and HBB Landscape Architecture recently developed Master Plans for Seibenthaler Park and the newly acquired Bennett Property.
Seibenthaler Park was established in 1945 to serve the residents in the north area of town. The park was named after a local Boy Scout leader. Seibenthaler Park is located on the corner of 16th and Bonney Ave. A case study was done for Seibenthaler Park during the 2018 Parks & Trail Plan public outreach. Responses included requests for fencing, more picnic areas and shelters, multi game courts, expanded play area, informal paths, additional trees, dog area, volleyball courts and soccer fields. Shortly after adopting the 2018 plan the City purchased two adjacent parcels adding another 0.31 acres.
The Bennett Property was acquired in December of 2020 in partnership with Pierce County Conservation Futures funding. This 3.96 acre lot is location at 4811 E Valley Hwy E was previously owned by Christopher and Gloria Bennett. Its formerly the home of a radio station and tower. This new park was purchased to fill the need of this underserved area of the City.
A kickoff survey was successful in identifying which amenities were preferred at each of these parks. That input helped develop concepts we then narrowed down to a preferred master plan for each location. These plans will be developed with phases to seek funding in future years.
I am excited to be part of this process and look forward to working with you on getting these improvements funded and built!
