What do we need to address in our plan to be prepared for natural and human-caused hazards?
FEMA requires the Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) be updated every 5 years in order for the city to be eligible for federal funds for disaster preparedness and after a disaster. The HMP identifies natural, man-made, and technological hazards and threats to the Sumner community and provides mitigation measures to address and reduce these impacts.
The City is working with Pierce County and other cities and towns to update the Hazard Mitigation Plan for Region 5 .
The draft HMP will be completed and reviewed in the Fall of 2019 and submitted to the State on January 1, 2020 and then submitted to FEMA. Following state and federal review, the HMP will be adopted by the local jurisdiction no later than July 1, 2020.
