"You may have noticed that the new Covered Court in Rainier View Park is open for use, partially. Unfortunately, rain is puddling in the north section of the court. As we work with our project team to solve this issue, we have opened the southern portion of the courts for use. We’ve already seen it being used for basketball and pickleball, not at the same time. Once the full facility is open, we’ll assess if we need to set some expectations for which sports are in use (for example, basketball on Wednesdays and Fridays, pickleball on Saturdays, etc.) The lights remain on until 9 pm, which makes this court a great amenity for outdoor exercise after dark. Thank you for your patience as we work through a few issues with a new facility."
The exciting new Rainier View Park project in Sumner is set to transform the park into a more inclusive and enjoyable space for the community. This project encompasses a range of enhancements, starting with improvements to the ADA parking stalls and the installation of accessible ADA curb ramps and sidewalks, ensuring that everyone can easily access the park. Additionally, a brand-new bathroom facility equipped with water, sewer, and power will be constructed, adding much-needed convenience for park-goers.
For sports enthusiasts, the project includes replacing portions of and adding new pavement around the existing basketball court, renovating the sport courts with a covered roof designed to create the ultimate all-weather sports and recreation space. The court will also be painted to accommodate basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts.
The City has received grant funding from the Recreation Conservation Office (RCO) and Washington State's Local Community Project Program (LCP) to help fund this project.

Unfortunately, we do not have a date yet for when the last third of the covered court will be open. Then lights should be on and working normally.
Hello.
I am just wondering if the original black benches will be reinstalled on the west side of the new basketball court or will they be used somewhere else in the park?
We had purchased one of them with the plaque hoping they would be there for future generations….A.K.A The Grandkids!!

Thank you for reaching out regarding the benches. Please reach out to our Community Services Manager, Derek Barry, at DerekB@sumnerwa.gov and he will be able to provide information on the benches.
Is there a way to have the light at the pickleball courts to turn on in the morning for those that want to start playing at 7am on the weekends?

Unfortunately we do not have an update date for when the court will be fully open. The court may be partially opened in about two weeks.
Once the court opens, what will be the scheduled hours for the lights?

The lights are connected to a photocell so they will turn on at sunsets every day when it starts getting darker out. The lights will be on until the park closes at 9 pm.
I am a senior at Sumner High School and I am looking for a location to hold a schoolwide pickleball tournament, I was wondering what is the expected finish date of the covered court?

Unfortunately, we’ve ran into a couple issues with the covered court that we are working out with the contractor so we can’t open to court to the public yet. Once we have a better idea of how to resolve the issues, the City will provide an update as to when the court will be open.
We have opened the parking stalls, new bathroom, and the gazebo to the public.
When does the covered park open

Hello,
The City does not have a specific reservation system or event permit specific to the covered court. The park is open on a first come first serve basis. The City does have a general event permit for large events that can be applied for here:
