We are all striving to work against systemic inequalities, both in our country and our community. When we say "Come on in," we want everyone to be and to feel welcome in Sumner. Yet, we know that is not always the case. Obstacles that hinder everyone's ability to be truly included are issues that demand our engagement and attention.

What We've Done So Far

The City of Sumner has addressed diversity, equity and inclusion in the various services we provide. See the PDF document at right for more information about these efforts. There's always room for more. And, real change can not be dictated just from the City government or the school district. It takes all of us working together each and every day.

Listening to You

To that end, we usually ask three questions when we talk with people in Sumner: what's working; what could be better; and what can we do to make it better? Usually, answers focus on traffic, land use and similar topics. In this space, we ask you to think about these questions through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion. Please do not expect a reply to every idea. This is our time to listen to you, and we appreciate in advance your time and your thoughtfulness.
