The Sonoco site is not known with certainty to be contaminated, but given the historic use of the property (processing of paper products), the Department of Ecology circulated by mail a required notice to all property owners in Sumner to solicit public comment on potential cleanup requirements if the property is discovered to contain contamination. This is not uncommon and is a standard process when properties on the suspected clean-up list are proposed to be sold. 

The Senior Center bus is only available for day trip destinations and not for transportation to the Senior Center. In town transportation can be provided by Beyond the Borders (call: 253-572-4357).

Exodus Housing moved its central office to the City of Puyallup to cut down on overhead costs and downsize space given the ability for caseworkers to work remotely, but the nonprofit organization is still very much providing rapid rehousing services (rental assistance) to families fleeing domestic violence situations to avoid homelessness.

If referring to the Arbor Day tree planting event, it is done through the Forestry, Parks & Art Commission.  They identify areas of town that lack street trees, then determine if the planter strip is free of utility conflicts and is large enough for planting.  The goal is to get to different sections of the city each year.

No, Sound Transit purchased additional right of way from the adjacent property owners.  The current configuration (wider than before) is what the project entails.

The traffic signal at Station Lane and Thompson already has technology built into it to help clear traffic from the intersection.

Current city code addresses motorized foot scooters.  New state law attempts to regulate them more.   Additionally, the city council will be considering code amendments at their 8/17 council meeting to give police additional enforcement tools.

Those are street trees which are maintained staff.  Currently there are over 200 requests for tree maintenance.  Minor tree maintenance may be performed by adjacent homeowners provided they get a free permit from the city.

1. No one allows fireworks at the sports complex.  Under code, fireworks are prohibited in city parks.
2. If we catch people violating the fireworks code in our parks, we can require them to clean it up.  Most of the time we don’t catch people, therefore there is no one to make them clean up.
3. Fireworks can be legally discharged on public property (except parks) or on private property with the permission of the owner.  Fireworks can only be discharged between noon and midnight on July 4^th. SMC 8.08.110

Peddlers and solicitors are required to obtain a permit from the city.  There are several types of solicitors that do not require a permit (SMC 5.28.030) including political, religious, 501c3, newspaper carriers or produce sales.

No.  The all hazards sirens are meant to only be heard outdoors.  Indoor warnings are to occur via a national weather service radio or emergency alert system.  Additionally, these are not under the city’s control—they are managed by Pierce County.

The city will be rolling out a new alert and warning system later this year.  It will be used in conjunction with PC Alert.  Residents are encouraged to sign up with both systems. https://www.piercecountywa.gov/ALERT

1. An open solicitation was made. The Cultural Arts Commission narrowed it down to approximately 10 bands, which were reviewed by the Employee DEIB committee. Then it was what bands matched the schedule.
2. Next year, the public will be involved in voting on who they want to perform.  Voting will occur around March.
